Canadian International School of Thailand is proud to announce that it is authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP).

What is the International Baccalaureate (IB)?

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

All four IB Programmes operate under the single educational philosophy guided by the IB Mission.  If you are new to the IB, or want to better understand how IB improves education for students in over 150 countries and 5000 schools, begin here.

What is an IB Education?

IB learners strive to become inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced and reflective. These attributes represent a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities that go beyond intellectual development and academic success. This is the IB’s educational philosophy.

What does the PYP look like for our students?

The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) is designed for students aged 3 to 11.  At the heart of the PYP philosophy is the process of learning through inquiry. This student-centered process moves the students from their current level of understanding to a new and deeper level of understanding.

At CIST, our curriculum is organized under 6 Transdisciplinary Themes which have been selected by the IBO and represent the knowledge and understandings students will develop throughout their years in the PYP.
Each year, students engage in Units of Inquiry which are designed to further develop their understanding of these themes. These units form our Programme of Inquiry (POI).

The POI is the driving force behind teaching and learning at CIST. Teachers plan to develop literacy and numeracy skills as well as approaches to learning as part of these units. Our POI draws on The Quebec Education Program (QEP) as well as the essential elements of the PYP.

What does the MYP look like for our students?

The IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) is designed for students aged 11 to 16. It provides a framework of learning that encourages students to become creative, critical and reflective thinkers.

The MYP emphasizes intellectual challenge, encouraging students to make connections between their studies in traditional subjects and the real world. It fosters the development of skills for communication, intercultural understanding, and global engagement - essential qualities for young people who are becoming global leaders.

IB Learner Profile

The IB Learner Profile

At the core of all IB Programmes is the IB learner profile. The learner profile represents a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities that encompass intellectual, personal, emotional and social growth.

Developing and demonstrating the attributes of the learner profile provides an important foundation for international-mindedness. The learner profile supports students in taking action for positive change.

The learner profile aims to develop learners who are:
