About Us

CIST recognises the fast-changing demands of modern society and the ever-evolving marketplace. In addition to academic qualifications, there is a need for critical and creative thinking skills, interpersonal skills, leadership, and adaptability. Here, we aim to prepare all learners for the future by laying a solid foundation of education for all students at all levels.

CIST Learners

Every child is an individual. CIST aims to identify each child’s talents, interests, and aspirations and align them with learning opportunities designed to promote them and build on them to create new competencies. We aim to provide a conducive learning environment for individuals while emphasizing the inter-connectivity among learners.

As students grow into CIST learners, guided by our mission, we encourage them to take meaningful action on issues of relevance both in-school and in the community as they recognize their role as responsible global citizens.

History

Founded 48 years ago by Mr. Narong and Mrs. Usa Thewphaingarm, Thewphaingarm School has evolved into TCBS and CIST, carrying forward a legacy of academic excellence and a commitment to nurturing students in a community rooted in heritage and love.

CIST first opened in September 2017 with a Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and Grade 7 class. After five years of continual growth, the school now has almost 300 students from Pre-Kindergarten through to Grade 12.

In the Academic Year 2022 - 23, the school celebrated a significant milestone as the first students of CIST received their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).

CIST aims to identify each child’s talents, interests, and aspirations and align them with learning opportunities designed to promote them and build on them to create new competencies.

Academic Programs

Along with growth in numbers and facilities, the school is dedicated to developing its academic programs. In 2021, the school received authorization for both the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP). The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) is a recognized leader in the field of education with over 5,500 schools in 159 countries, encouraging students to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners.

In Grade 11 and 12, we follow the Canadian Curriculum, Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) which is an internationally recognized secondary school credential, from the Ministry of Education Ontario in Canada.

OSSD is a widely accepted Canadian Diploma equivalent to A levels and/or IB DP curriculum. It acknowledges the completion of secondary-level education (Years 9 to 12) and prepares students for global opportunities in future.

In Grade 11, students continue with the curriculum of Ontario to prepare them for success in grade 12.

CIST is a collaborative partner school in the Rosedale Global High School Program.
