Frequently Asked Questions

What is the International Baccalaureate (IB)?

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is an educational foundation founded in 1968 which developed a continuum of four programmes which provide world-leading curriculum or curricular frameworks that emphasize inquiry and encourages students to become active and compassionate lifelong learners and true citizens of the world.

Where does the IB come from?

Founded in Geneva, Switzerland in 1968, The International Baccalaureate was originally a non-profit educational foundation focused on internationally-mobile students preparing for university. As technological, economic and social advances transformed the world, the IB has become the first choice of schools because of its global focus, emphasis on student-centered learning and recognition by the best-known universities.

What is the goal of an IB education?

The goal of an IB education is to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

Will an IB education help students with university entrance?

An IB education is the ultimate passport to top universities in countries such as United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Research shows that DP graduates are much more likely to be enrolled at top higher education institutions than entrants holding other qualifications.

What are the benefits for Canadian International School of Thailand staff?

The International Baccalaureate educational programmes provides our faculty with opportunities to develop and utilize research-based teaching and learning practices through professional development networks, reflective self-evaluation and collaborative planning.

How many IB Programmes are there?

The IB has grown into four programs for students aged 3-19. These are the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), Diploma Programme (DP) and the Career-related Programme (CP). The result is a seamless progression of skill development and learning that supports students through every stage of their academic and personal growth and prepares them to excel beyond high school.

How many programmes are offered at the Canadian School?

We are currently in the candidacy phase for PYP and MYP and hope to offer the DP in the future.

Are we still offering Canadian curriculum?

We deliver the Quebec Education Program (QEP) within the flexible IB curriculum frameworks. IB provides a structure for organizing planning, teaching and assessment. Content from the QEP (and our partner schools in Canada) can be taught very successfully through IB’s inquiry-based and concept driven approach to learning.
